EAST PROVIDENCE — Responding to a suspicious person call on Tuesday, Sept. 10, the East Providence Police arrested a hitchhiker on Interstate 195, westbound at Exit 6.
Wayne Maxwell Munns, 38, was charged with possession of Schedule I, II, III, IV and V substances, possession of weapons other than firearms prohibited and as a fugitive from justice.
Upon arrival at the scene, police immediately identified a machete knife protruding from a backpack Mr. Munns was wearing. A further search by police discovered two more knives, four and three inches in length, on his person. Two more knives besides the machete, making six total, were found in the backpack along with prescription drug bottles that had been prescribed to a family member of Mr. Munns.
In addition, after a background check, police were informed an arrest warrant for similar offenses had been issued on Mr. Munns in DeKalb County Alabama in August of this year.
Mr. Munns was processed and released with a summons to appear in Sixth District Court in November.
Jonathan Alexander Valle, 24, of 300 Elmwood Ave., Apt. 12, Providence, was arrested by East Providence Police on a charge of disorderly conduct after being involved in altercation at the East Bay Tavern Saturday, Sept. 7, at approximately 1:15 a.m. Police arrived at the scene to find two males fighting. Mr. Valle was taken into custody and released with a summons to appear in Sixth District Court later in September.
Cecilia Maria Pires, 49, of 200 Bell Ave., Apt. 5, East Providence, was arrested by East Providence Police and charged with domestic simple assault and battery on Thursday, Sept. 5, at approximately 7:55 p.m. Police responded to disturbance call at the Bell Avenue address. Upon arrival, Ms. Pires’ adult daughter claimed her mother had struck her following a disagreement. Ms. Pires was processed and released with a summons to appear in Sixth District Court later in September.
