EAST PROVIDENCE — With the July 11 deadline for signatures from constituents comes formal indication of three September primary elections in East Providence and more unopposed candidates.
The three primaries take place in City Council races. In Ward 3, two newcomers, Joseph Carter and Chelsie Tague, remained in the race to unseat incumbent Tommy Rose, who also faces a challenge from Candy Seel, his opponent two years ago.
In Ward 1, Robert Britto, Robert Silva and David Sullivan each submitted the mandatory number of 50 signatures. And in Ward 4 Brian Faria and Tim Conley take on incumbent Chrissy Rossi.
One Council race that won’t be is that of At-Large where the stated opponent for incumbent Tracy Capobianco, David Boucher, did not submit his signatures.
Mr. Boucher’s sister, Danielle Boucher, likewise did not submit signatures in her pursuit of the State Representative seat in District 63, meaning incumbent Katherine Kazarian will return to a second term in office unopposed.
Races headed directly to the General Election in November included Ward 2 Council where incumbent Helder Cunha faces challenger Brian Castro while Karen Doucette and Jessica Beauchaine will square off in the only School Committee race.
Also going to the General is District 65 rep seat where incumbent Democrat Helio Melo faces Republican challenger Robert Botelho.
Sens. Daniel DaPonte and William Conley are unopposed as is State Rep. Gregg Amore. Also unopposed are the four other School Committee candidates — Joel Monteiro, Charlie Tsonos, Anthony Ferreira and Nate Cahoon.
