EAST PROVIDENCE — City native Matthew Price was the champion of the evening during his debut appearance on the venerable television game show “Jeopardy,” Friday night, Sept. 19.
Mr. Price, born and bred in East Providence, won $22,400 to take the top prize. Mr. Price dethroned then champ Bill Cossen, who had a three-win total of $50,602 to open the first week of Jeopardy’s 31st season.

Going into Friday’s Final Jeopardy, the show-ending round, Mr. Price was in second place with $11,200. Mr. Cossen was in the lead with $11,400. The answer for Final Jeopardy was “The title character of this 2013 film was played by David Tomlinson, who was actually seen only in clips from a 1964 film.”
Mr. Price, who wagered all his earnings, correctly answered “What is ‘Saving Mr. Banks?” Mr. Cossen, who wagered $11,001, answered incorrectly to finish with the game with just $399. The night’s third contestant, Stephanie Bilyeu, also answered correctly, wagering $8,000 or her $8,800 in winnings, to finish in second place.
Mr. Price returns as Jeopardy champ Monday evening, Sept. 22. Jeopardy airs nightly in WPRI 12 at 7:30 p.m.
