SEEKONK — A 35-year-old male walking on a dimly lighted road in Seekonk was struck and killed during a traffic accident last weekend.
Steven Nixon, whose last known address of 330 Bowdoin St., Dorchester, Mass., died as a result of injuries sustained from being struck by the car at Mink Street by Leavitt Street Friday evening, Oct. 17.
Seekonk Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m. for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon the arrival of police officers, and subsequently rescue personnel, efforts were made to resuscitate a Mr. Nixon who had been struck by a car. He was transported to Rhode Island hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The operator of the car was a 25-year-old man from East Providence. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was in the roadway on Mink Street. The striking car had been traveling north on Mink Street prior to the accident. The area where the accident occurred is poorly lit and there are no sidewalks. The road remained closed until 2:29 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.
There are no charges pending against the operator of the car. The matter remains under investigation by Seekonk Police and the Massachusetts State Police.
