EAST PROVIDENCE — LaSalle Academy outlasted East Providence, 24-21, to win the 86th edition of the teams’ Thanksgiving Day football classic Thursday, Nov. 27, at Pierce Memorial Stadium.
The Rams held a 17-14 lead at halftime courtesy of an Andrew Salzillo field goal, which barely made it over the crossbar.
The Townies’ scores came on an interception return by linebacker Aaron Amaral, a pass from quarterback Ryan Ellinwood to receiver Jayden Chase and a fumble return by Paulo Pereira. Corey Resendes kicked three extra points.
LaSalle upped its overall lead over the Townies in the series, the longest running holiday outing between in-state rivals, to 49-35-2. The Rams also ran their Thanksgiving winning streak against East Providence to eight, matching the longest-ever in the series. LaSalle twice before won eight in a row while the Townies have equaled the feat once.
The Rams, unbeaten in Division I league play at 9-0 and who will meet Bishop Hendricken for the league championship on December 6, improved to 10-2 overall for the season. East Providence ends the fall with a 3-7 overall record under first-year head coach Jay Monteiro.
