EAST PROVIDENCE — An early morning water main break stalled the on-going effort to clear city streets during the latest round of snow Monday, Feb. 9.
According to Council President and Mayor Tommy Rose, a break in the water lines near Hillside Avenue off South Broadway occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Monday morning.
Public Works Department crew members reached the scene shortly thereafter and remained there for the better part of the next 10 hours attempting to repair the leak and the roadway.
Plowing crews were short-handed earlier in the day in their attempts to stay up with the snow fall, which is expected to drop close to another foot of the white winter stuff on East Providence over the duration of the storm.
Those Public Works employees who worked on the water main break were sent home to rest for a few hours before returning to the job later in the afternoon.
