EAST PROVIDENCE — East Providence Firefighters quelled a blazed on Vine Street in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 28.

The fire broke out some time around 3 a.m. Saturday in a multi-family residence. It took EPFD personnel about an hour to bring the event under control.

Clean-up crews were working at the Vine Street fire location on Saturday.

“Our guys did a phenomenal stop. There was great potential to lose the house considering the situation they came upon, but they did a great job. They held the damage to a minimum,” said EPFD Chief Oscar Elmasian.

Five people were inside the home at the time of the fire. One was transported to hospital for undetermined reasons, according to the chief. No firefighters were injured. Investigators from the EPFD, the East Providence Police and State Fire Marshal’s officer remained on the scene as of later in the day.

The fire was the second in the neighborhood in less than a month. On March 9, EPFD crews were called to the scene of another house fire on Ivy Street. The cause of that event in an unoccupied home also remains under investigation.
