SEEKONK — Seekonk Police Chief Craig Mace provided some details to the arrest of two bank robbery suspects by East Providence Police officers on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

According to the SPD report, at about 9:49 a.m., Seekonk Police were notified the Bay Coast Bank, located at 174 Taunton Ave., was robbed by an individual. The address is located near the intersection of Fall River Avenue (Rt. 114A) in proximity to East Providence.

A note was passed to perpetrate the robbery. No weapon was displayed. Nobody was injured. Witnesses told communications personnel that the suspect was a black male who fled from the bank and ran to a taxi stopped in a nearby parking lot by the Seekonk Post Office. The taxi was reportedly seen travelling on Fall River Avenue toward Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence.

Seekonk Police Officers and detectives immediately went to the bank to secure the scene and look for the suspect vehicle. Within minutes of disseminating the descriptions of the suspect and the taxi, EPPD officers stopped the taxi in the area of 1320 Pawtucket Ave. The taxi was occupied by two men.

The driver was identified as Clyde Menelas, 28, 57 Rustcraft Road, Dedham, Mass. The passenger and suspected robber was identified as Kenny Jean, 20, 31 Bowker Street, Boston.
Evidence of the robbery was present in the taxi. No weapon was found in the car.

Both men were taken into custody by East Providence Police as Fugitives from Justice. Even though the matter remains under investigation, the men will be charged in Massachusetts with Armed Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.

“We are very grateful for the cooperative effort of the East Providence Police Department,” said Chief Mace. “Their vigilance in monitoring our activity was crucial to the apprehension of the suspects and preservation of
evidence.”
