East Providence Police apprehend Barrington bank robbery suspects

BARRINGTON — Multiple media outlets reported East Providence Police apprehended two suspected bank robbers late Friday afternoon, July 12, following a high-speed chase which started in Barrington.

The unidentified suspects, both males said to be in their early 30s, allegedly attempted an armed robbery of the Bank of America branch in Barrington at approximately 5 p.m. The suspects, traveling by car, fled the scene on Wampanoag Trail then to Interstate 195 before exiting on Broadway.

With East Providence Police in pursuit, the suspects found their way to Mason Street off of South Broadway where the chase came to an end when they crashed into a police vehicle. The suspects then attempted to flea on foot, but were caught the officers.

The robbery took place at the BOA branch on County Road in Barrington. A Barrington Police Officer near the scene began pursuit of the suspects vehicle, a Hyundai. East Providence Police joined the chase on Wampanoag Trail.

According to the reports, an EPPD Officer and both suspects were taken to hospital, each treated for minor injuries. A weapon believed to have been used in the attempted robbery was found at the scene. The suspects were expected to be arraigned some time Saturday, July 13, on robbery and weapon charges as well as eluding police and resisting arrest.
