SEEKONK — Seekonk Police officers arrested three Rhode Island men in connection with an attempted house burglary earlier in the week.
On Tuesday, June 2, at 12:48 p.m., Seekonk Public Safety Communications Dispatchers received an emergency call from a woman at 722 Arcade Avenue. The woman reported that her house was being broken into.
The woman reported that initially a man was banging on her front door. She did not answer the door and reported that two other men then appeared at the rear of the house. The woman fled to hide in an upstairs room when the two men broke into a rear door. All available police officers were dispatched to the area. The woman was kept on the telephone by a dispatcher.
Sergeant Christopher Kelly was the first to arrive at the residence within a minute of being dispatched. He observed a black Acura leaving the driveway bearing Rhode Island registration plates.
Sergeant Kelly immediately notified other officers of the Acura leaving the area and began to pursue the car. The car traveled north on Arcade Avenue.
Sergeant Kelly was soon joined by School Resource Officers Stephen Kandarian and Matthew Gardner (SROs in one cruiser). Captain Frank John, who was in the immediate area as well, went to the residence to ensure the safety and well-being of the resident.
Officers pursued the Acura north on Arcade Avenue. Patrolman James McDonald traveled to the area from a north post and intercepted the pursuit on Arcade Avenue by Scott Road.
The operator of the Acura drove around the front of Patrolman McDonald’s marked cruiser and onto a lawn at the corner of Arcade Avenue and Scott Road. The Acura continued north across lawns on Arcade Avenue with pursuing officers paralleling it on Arcade Avenue.
The Acura got stuck on one lawn where Patrolman McDonald was able to position his cruiser in front of the Acura. The pursuing officers surrounded the Acura and took three men into custody.
